Speed Dating in London has proved very popular for a number of reasons. First of all it’s great fun, secondly it’s a way of meeting many people in one night, but most importantly it is a sure fire way of starting a successful relationship with someone new.
In Lewes this event not only marks the date of the uncovering of the Gunpowder Plot in , but also commemorates the memory of the seventeen Protestant martyrs burnt at the stake for their faith during the Marian Persecutions. The celebrations, which controversially involve burning an effigy of Pope Paul V , who was pope during the martyrdoms, are the largest and most famous bonfire night celebrations in the country. Lewes Farmers’ Market, one of the first in the UK, was started in the s by Common Cause Co-operative Ltd and is a popular re-invention of Lewes as a market town.
The Farmers’ Market takes place in pedestrianised Cliffe High Street on the first and third Saturdays of every month, with local food producers coming to sell their wares under covered market stalls. A weekly food market in the Lewes Market Tower was established in July by Transition Town Lewes to allow traders to sell local produce. In September , Lewes launched its own currency, the Lewes Pound , in an effort to increase trade within the town. Like the similar local currency in Totnes , the initiative is part of the Transition Towns movement.
The Lewes Pound and the Transition Towns movement have received criticism for a failure to address the needs of the wider Lewes population, especially lower socio-economic groups. Many of the notes were sold on eBay at a higher amount. Early numbers and sequenced notes fetched very high prices from foreign collectors. Landmarks[ edit ] Lewes Castle The town is the location of several significant historic buildings, including Lewes Castle , the remains of Lewes Priory , Bull House the former home of Tom Paine , Southover Grange and public gardens, and a sixteenth-century timber-framed Wealden hall house known as Anne of Cleves House because it was given to her as part of her divorce settlement from Henry VIII , though she never lived there.
The steep and cobbled Keere Street is home to many historic buildings, including a timber framed antiquarian bookshop. The gardens of the buildings on the east side of the street border the old Town Walls. The Prince Regent once drove his carriage down the Street, and a sign at the bottom commemorates this event.

A message from the Steward Club functions have recently had a poor uptake, which resulted in the hard decision to postpone the Summer Party, upsetting those that already had the date in their diary Club events require sufficient interest in order to be viable and having only a few members signing up in advance, clearly gives myself and the house committee a problem In order to book a band, produce quality food at reasonable prices and generally put on a good event, I really do need you lovely members to try and book or express your interest well in advance.
Only then are we able to commit to booking a band. Support your Yacht Club, book your places as early as you can and join in the fun! They are very interested in photos and video footage of dolphin encounters caught by the public. Other social media includes:
West Sussex’s historic houses are also home to extensive art collections. Visitors to Arundel Castle can view paintings by Van Dyck, Gainsborough and Canaletto, while Parham House’s offering includes portraits of notable Elizabethans such as Henry Frederick, Prince of Wales, painted by Robert Peake.
Over Year 9 pupils took part in the event which is designed to raise awareness of the different types of careers available to them when they leave school. Students had the opportunity to network with local business representatives from a number of sectors including banking, childcare, engineering, building, medical, and the Armed Forces. Over the two sessions, students interviewed business professionals with questions that they prepared in their personal development lessons.
Many students chose to find out more about which career paths and qualifications are needed for particular professions, along with salary and job satisfaction. Hopefully it has motivated students to explore all options available to them, shown them a wide variety of career paths and started them planning their own future careers. Apprenticeship Providers include West Sussex County Council – all come together to provide information and resources to Year students. This event is free to attend and if you would like more information, please email swilson theweald.

The Social Group is the favourite social organisation for singles. The Social Group was set up in the first place because of our own experience of being single and finding it really difficult to meet people and make new friends. Before there was The Social Group, we tried everything, and to be honest, were pretty appalled at the choice… We found the usual sad singles clubs had bizarre rules where women had to agree to dance with any man of any age who asked them, and then had to allow themselves be hit on in a really creepy way.
We found other local clubs who almost forced people to hold events in their own homes, paying to cater for the horde of complete strangers who descended upon them. We found the stereotype dodgy dating agencies cost an arm and a leg, and the upshot was you found yourself sitting next to just one person of the opposite sex who was totally unsuitable, both of you feeling extremely awkward and pressured. We found the classified ads had no safeguards at all — and we were told some real horror stories of meeting the types of people you definitely would not wish to mix with.
We understood that not everyone had time for an expensive night school class, or wanted to put their life at risk going parachuting or bungee jumping with a gung-ho extreme sports company. There was just nothing really suitable. There had to be a better way… So, we came to the conclusion, that to get what we wanted, we would have to set it up and run it ourselves.
And to run it properly, that would require a proper office and full time staff, so we would need to charge for the service. But the end result would be to offer something a lot better! Not everyone who is single is looking for a partner — or wants it to look obvious!

And the roads were not busier than normal immediately before, or after the games, suggesting people are often choosing not to travel or to travel at completely different times, rather than to change their journeys to earlier or later times in the same day. China’s maglev trains have been in service for more than a decade. AP And it’s long been a feature that every rational examination of connecting Sydney and Melbourne by high speed rail doesn’t add up because of population densities and the aeroplane industry being very competitive indeed. Mr Alexander seems to think he’s discovered a way to make the uneconomic economic through the “value capture” buzz phrase — and a very good phrase it is, too.
Magnetic attraction Instead, try high speed maglev rail linking Newcastle, Sydney, the Blue Mountains and Wollongong and you could actually have something. Even without the value capture argument, there was a mysteriously lost opportunity at the start of this century, back when Carl Scully was transport minister and Sussex Street ran NSW, to build just such a fast train network. What could have been.

Neither is it particularly small, but just a great name for what was once the farm food store in this beautifully converted farm building. The Mouse House is on a working dairy farm on the edge of the village of West Chiltington. It is one of three stunningly converted farm buildings that form a private courtyard of holiday cottages on the edge of this working farm.
Newly converted it has retained the original features that these classic buildings have.
